Understanding TIN

A TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) is a unique 12-digit number issued by Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR), serving as your financial ID for business and official matters. You need it to get a trade license, open a credit card, obtain loans above Tk. 5 lakh, buy property, import products, or run for elections. Registration is free and can be done online in 10–15 minutes via the official NBR E-TIN portal. The critical “trap” is compliance: once you have a TIN, you must file a tax return every year, even if you earned nothing, to avoid fines.
